Kertch wells are in unsatisfactory condition!
The results of researches held by Kertch branch of "Ekologiya I Mir" simultaneously with municipal sanitary-and-epidemiological station about water in Kertch wells and springs showed that this water didn't fit with all-Union State Standard and it is not recommended for drinking.
It's not a secret, that today Kertch has grand problems with water supply. Delivery irregularity is an everyday occurrence. And wells and springs appear almost the only sources of drinking water when it is absent in taps.
Kertch sanitary-and-epidemiological station and activists from Kerch branch of "Ekologiya I Mir" checked mineshafts and springs with simultaneous water withdrawal for chemical and microbiological analyses.
The results of analyses held by sanitary-and-epidemiological station and analytical laboratory of "Ekologiya I Mir" lead to the only conclusion that water from these sources doesn't correspond to all-Union State Standard "Drinking Water" and it is not recommended to be used for drinking and cooking. Nitrates content in this water exceeded indexes in 4-5 times. It is especially alarming because nitrates can transform into toxic nitrites in human organisms and lead to poisoning. And nitrites, in their turn, also can promote oncological diseases development.
Besides, most of wells are not equipped properly: they don't have public dip-buckets in wells of villages Mayak, Dzhankoy. The last one even doesn't have a chain for water lifting. Passageways for all wells need a repair. Sewage drainage system are also absent. Territories close to mineshafts and springs are dirty and overgrown with grass.
Recommendations of Kertch chief sanitary inspector I. Kovalchoock are "To repair wells, to clean the territory, to eliminate identified violations with repeated water sampling, after chlorination. Citizens should be informed about water quality and a ban to use it for constant drinking and cooking purposes".
