Feodosiya reservoirs condition

The results of analysis of water from Frontovoe and Nasypnoe reservoirs (Feodosiya), made by analytical laboratory of "Ekologiya I Mir", showed that none of them has ideal water for drinking.

From 3 till 10 of August, 2003 Feodosiya branch of "Ekologiya I Mir" volunteers researched two reservoirs: Frontovoe (which water today comes to inhabitants taps) and Nasypnoe (closed almost 30 years) ones.

Lots of interesting observations were made during the expedition. First of all almost complete lack of Frontovoe reservoir marking was noticed. According to law, water protection zone should be definitely confined with warning characters. The only symbols that were marked were two notes on the wall: "State ownership. Registered", and next to it "Attention! A sanitary zone".

Quite normally in such situation seemed swimming kids, and caws struggling with thirst in reservoir waters at some distance. Not numerous bushes substitute planting in water protection zone.

Water analysis made by analytical laboratory of "Ekologiya I Mir" showed that smell, colority and solid residual of Frontovoe reservoir water noticeably exceed norms. In its turn exceeding of norms for smell and colority indicates organic compounds presence, and a big quantity of solid residual reveals heightened mineralization.

Logical proposals come after such researches: why our state wouldn't care of its citizens and not clean reservoir from silt? It would be nice to place warning characters, to organize sanitary and water protection zones, plant trees and bushes along the perimeter of reservoir.

As for Nasypnoe reservoir, its research was made with purpose to find out if it was possible to use it as an alternative source of drinking water-supply.

In spite of the fact that reservoir condition is better by sight even than Frontovoe one (there are more plants, any cutting-down was noticed), the results on analysis made by laboratory of "Ekologiya I Mir" showed that this water is akin to a good mineral one. In means there are too much of chlorides and sulphates in it. This water possesses increased rigidity, and significant exceeding of solid residual says of high mineralization of water. The certain conclusion made by an analyst of CRAEM laboratory E. Berezovsky is that water from Nasypnoe reservoir cannot be used for drinking water-supply!
